Vision, Mission and Philosophy


The students at Mary Williams Elementary School are world class learners who demonstrate compassion, respect and kindness towards others within their community. The diverse needs of the student body are addressed through a comprehensive curriculum that promotes success and personal growth in areas of academic, career and social/emotional learning. The comprehensive school counseling program supports personal achievement for all students and encourages each child to overcome adversities and barriers to learning, while appreciating the diverse culture that has fostered their academic success. The comprehensive school counseling program encourages the collaborative relationships with families, staff, and community stakeholders to support the needs of all students. Panthers Cub students are world class excellent learners and leaders who demonstrate excellence within their diverse community.



The mission of the Mary Williams Elementary School counseling program is to provide a proactive, multicultural, and comprehensive school counseling program. Through the delivery of varied direct and indirect services, it is the mission of the school counseling program to advocate and provide support to maximize all students potential and academic achievement focusing on academic, social/emotional, and career development. The diverse needs of all students are met through the development of a supportive, caring, and nurturing environment from school counselors, other staff, families and community members so that all children achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society.



The counselors at Mary Williams Elementary believe all students:

·         Have dignity and worth and should be treated respectfully

·         Should have an opportunity to achieve academic success regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities, religious views, or socioeconomic status.

·         Can achieve personal/social, academic, and career success given the proper support

·         Have the right to a safe and accessible learning environment

·         Have access to full-time, state-certified, master’s-degree-level school counselor to deliver the counseling program

·         Have the right to participate in the counseling program

·         Can be college-ready and college-bound

As a school counselor, we believe the Mary Williams Elementary Counseling Program should:

·         Reach all students

·         Be based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model

·         Be aligned with curriculum for Prince William County, and the state of Virginia, as well as ASCA national standards

·         Use data to drive program development and evaluation

·         Involve parents and members of the community 

We as school counselors at Mary Williams Elementary will:

·         Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by ASCA

·         Participate in professional development

·         Be accessible to all students

·         Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, students, and the community 

Elementary School Counselors Provide/Facilitate:

·         Small group counseling

·         Classroom guidance lessons

·         Parent Workshops

·         School Conferences
